This recipe started years ago in my family. My (then) little ones could help cut the apples using kid-friendly knives, and together we've added a few touches to the recipe over the years. Note: If you're not a pastry fan, it works just as well as an apple crisp!
Preparation level: Adult supervision — sharp edges and hot oven involved
Peel, core, and slice the apples, and place in the pie crust. It should be slightly heaped up in the pastry. Drizzle with caramel sauce. In a medium mixing bowl, mix all topping ingredients together using a fork or pastry cutter until it forms pea-sized crumbs. Cover the fruit with the topping. Cover the pie crust edges with foil and bake at 350 degrees Farenheit for 25 minutes. Uncover the edges and bake for another 20 minutes or until crust is browned and apples are soft. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Mmmmm!
